What are the differences between Sch 40, 80, DB60, DB100, DB120, Type A, and Type EB in American standard PVC pipe models? 🔍

18 Feb, 2025

Sch 40、Sch 80、DB60、DB100、DB120、Type A、Type EB……
What are the differences between these models? How to choose without stepping into pitfalls?
Today, let ETL Depot explain it to you. After reading this article, you will understand! 👇

1. Sch 40 and Sch 80

These two are the most common types of PVC pipes, with differences mainly in wall thickness and pressure bearing capacity:

Sch 40: The wall thickness is relatively thin, suitable for low-pressure environments such as household drainage and ventilation systems.

Sch 80: Thicker wall thickness and stronger pressure bearing capacity, suitable for industrial high-pressure environments such as chemical plants and laboratories.

ETL Depot Summary: Sch 80 is more sturdy, but also more expensive. Choosing Sch 40 for home use is enough!

2. DB60、DB100、DB120

These are the models of PVC conduits mainly used for electrical wiring:

DB60: Lightweight conduit, suitable for indoor low-voltage electrical wiring, such as household circuits.

DB100: Medium sized conduit with stronger pressure bearing capacity than DB60, suitable for commercial buildings.

DB120: Heavy duty conduit with the strongest pressure bearing capacity, suitable for industrial environments or outdoor use.

ETL Depot Summary: The larger the number after DB, the stronger the catheter and the higher the price!

3. Type A and Type EB

These two are different types of PVC conduits, with the main difference being the installation environment:
Type A: Rigid conduit, A-type rigid PVC conduit is used to wrap in concrete at any position. Suitable for wiring at 75 ° C (167 ° F)
Type EB: Rigid conduit. EB type (embedded) rigid PVC conduit is used for embedding in concrete in external trenches of buildings..

ETL Depot Summary: Type A has a wider range of scenarios, choose according to your needs!

ETL Depot Application:

The joints covered by these requirements are accessories used for connection:

a) Two sections of rigid PVC conduit,

b) A section of rigid PVC conduit is connected to a rigid PVC elbow and

c) Connect to the junction box together with the junction box adapter, a section of rigid PVC conduit, or a rigid PVC elbow.

parts

The junction box adapters covered by these requirements are accessories used to connect a section of ETL Depot rigid PVC conduit or PVC elbow to a rigid PVC box with a coupling (not limited to junction boxes).

The internal thread adapters covered by these requirements are fittings used to connect a section of ETL Depot rigid PVC conduit, PVC elbow to threaded rigid metal conduit or other externally threaded devices.

The external thread adapter (also known as terminal adapter) covered by these requirements is used to connect a section of ETL Depot rigid PVC conduit or elbow to:

a) The knock off area of a metal box with a metal locking nut,

b) Threaded metal wheels or accessories on metal boxes,

c) Threaded wheel hub on phenolic resin box, or

d) Knock off holes on phenolic resin boxes.

Shopping Tips
one:Select the model according to the purpose: Sch 40 or DB60 for household use, Sch 80 or DB120 for industrial use.
two:Pay attention to size: The inner and outer diameters of pipes of different models may vary, so it is important to confirm clearly when selecting.
three:Budget considerations: Sch 80 and DB120 are relatively expensive, so if it's not a high-pressure environment, there's no need to choose too expensive ones.
